Magical Sludge

“Again, tell me, Ned,

What are the ingredients?”

“The writings of a sorcerer; bitter stares from a crowd.

Sand from a path often taken by clowns.

An unexpected kiss; a reputation that’s fractured.

A jacket that’s been smudged completely with sludge.

An ominous sign; a blend of emotions.

Is all we need for our invisibility potion”

“Ned, I’ve never seen a list so complex.

Are you sure we’ll find these in the wander-fool market?

Ned rubbed his neck, and let out a breath.
“That we’ll find it there, I’m not sure.
But Merlin did assure us…. “ He calmly said.

With that, the two journeyed to wander-fool
In search of that which would make them invincible…..

“Well, if it isn’t Ned, and Finn…. Sans Merlin.

What brings you two here at an hour so ill?”

“We’re in need of some very rare herbs.
And why we need them is a secret”

“It always is. Well, what do you need?”

“The writings of a sorcerer; bitter stares from a crowd.

Sand from a path often taken by clowns.

An unexpected kiss; a reputation that’s fractured.

A jacket that’s been smudged completely with sludge.

An ominous sign; a blend of emotions.

Is all we need. Please, tell me you took note….”

“To think that you two would mock me!
Hasn’t your old man done enough to taunt me?”

“But Madame Bella, we –“

“Please, leave…..”

“But the ingredients — “

“Out!”, Madame Bella yelled.

And with that, the two, from wander-fool, journeyed out.
Owning nothing but the bitter stares from the crowd…..

“But Finn, could it be
That Merlin was lying?”

(Finn wouldn’t answer
To Ned or the weather)
Ned may ask till forever…
And the rain may fall so heavily…
The both wouldn’t kill his anger so easily..

It rained; it poured, it raged, it drummed
Filling gullies…..and yielding sludge
The two now had made it to town,
And in a few minutes, they’ll make it to their house.

“Finn, a penny for your thoughts…
Did Merlin lie to us?”

“I wouldn’t think so, Ned.
Merlin bears the honorary seal of Albion.
But if he did lie, it’s for a good reason.
Always watching out for us, old Merlin

We should save our heads from this gruesome rain.
And save our potion for another day.
But when we reach the house –“

“Finn! Watch out!”
But he couldn’t. He didn’t. He tripped over.
And fell into the puddle…
Finn swore, cursed, and cried in Celtic
As Ned helped him get back on his feet.

People watched.
His ego had been smudged
And his reputation, fractured…

“Perhaps, it’s a sign — an ominous sign.
Perhaps, we should avoid the house for a while.”

“An Ominous sign — isn’t that in the list?”

Yes, it is”, an excited Ned squealed.

Then they took out the list, and began to read.
***

A sorcerer’s writing.”
(“Merlin’s writing!”)
Bitter stares from a crowd
(“Like we had in wander-fool town”)
“Sand from the path often taken by clowns”
(“Isn’t that why it’s called wander-fool town? “)
“An unexpected kiss”
(“You did kiss the ground….unexpectedly”)
A reputation that’s fractured
(A short laugh ruptured)
“Jackets that’s been smudged completely with sludge”
(They laughed on)
An Ominous sign”
(Ned and Finn both smiled)

“Ned, I’m beyond happy..
Do you know what this means?”

“We have the ingredients for our potion!
Boy, I’m filled with mixed emotions!”

And then they gasped.
A blend of emotions…
The last ingredient for their potion.

“Finn, how do we brew this potion?”

Maybe, we don’t have to..
Am I invisible?”

“Well, I can still see you.
But maybe others won’t…”

“Well, there’s only one way to find out”

With that, two clowns scurried off to the square,
Making faces, and screaming as they did.
But no one paid attention… No one saw them too.
Perhaps, they truly were invisible…..
